Why Does Your HV700 Screen Have Horizontal Lines? The LCD Failure Explained and Fixed
An HV700 display came through our Fort Myers shop looking like a barcode: wild horizontal lines running across the LCD from edge to edge. Owners sometimes see one or two faint lines at first, then a whole stack of them. This is a classic aging LCD failure on these units, it tends to spread, and it is fully fixable for $2,800+ less than a new display.

What Is the HV700 Display?
One 7 inch helm screen, a dozen boat brands
Starting in 2012, boat builders across the industry put the 7 inch Murphy (Enovation Controls) HV700 at the helm, in both touch and non touch versions. Mastercraft X-Series and Prostar, Nautique Linc, Supra Vision, Tige Touch 2, Centurion Touch Vision, RegalVue, Premier, South Bay, Harris, Four Winns, Bayliner, and Sylvan all used a version of this display. Check the label on the back of your unit: if it says HV700, HV700HB, HV700T, or HV700BP, this guide applies to you.
4 LCD Failures We Frequently See
Different looks, same aging panel underneath

Horizontal Lines and Stripes
Rows of the LCD stop driving correctly, leaving lines or stripes across the image. It may start with one or two, and it tends to spread from there.

Black Spots and Bad Colors
Dark circles or blotches appear on the panel, or the colors shift and stop rendering correctly.

Faint Image or UV Burned LCD
The picture goes faint and hard to read as the panel ages, and long term sun exposure can burn the LCD itself.

Ghost Touch and Frozen Buttons
On touch versions we also frequently see ghost or phantom inputs and frozen, unresponsive buttons from a failing internal touch controller chip. One repair fixes it all.
Why the Lines Appear
An early generation LCD reaching the end of its life span
The original HV700 units use an early generation LCD that has been known to give out as the years add up. It is normal for electronics to fail when used beyond their designed life span, and a boat helm is a tough place to spend a decade: heat cycles bake the dash all day, UV works on the panel, and vibration flexes the internal connections every time the boat runs.
As the panel and its connections age, entire rows of the display stop rendering, and that is exactly what horizontal lines are. The lines themselves are not dirt or moisture on the glass, and cleaning will not bring the image back. Once they start appearing, more tend to follow, so this is one to address before the display becomes unreadable at the helm.
How the Mail-In Repair Works
Four steps, no dealer visit, no programming
- Place your HV700 mail-in repair order and a pre-paid shipping label arrives by email (USA only). International customers receive mailing instructions.
- Remove the display from your boat and ship it in. Removal is simple plug and play, and each boat is a little different, so check our installation page for details on yours.
- We carefully open the unit, replace the failed LCD and digitizer with brand new parts, reseal the unit to retain its original watertight properties, and test everything before it ships back in 3 days or less.
- Plug it back in. No programming, no dealer visit, and all of your original settings and profiles are preserved.
What Owners Get Back
Same unit, brand new LCD, brighter than factory
The same unit that left your boat comes back with a brand new custom LCD and bonded digitizer behind your original housing and motherboard. Lines, spots, faint image, and any touch issues are all resolved in the same repair. Trusted by hundreds of verified customers with a 5 star rating.
The updated 800 nit LED backlight means the screen typically comes back brighter than the day the boat left the showroom, with an anti-glare, anti-fingerprint finish that stays readable in full sun and with polarized glasses on.
