How to Remove the Displays From Your Sea Ray SLX for Delamination Repair
Your SLX helm runs on Medallion Viper II touchscreens: a 12 inch up top, and on many boats an optional 7 inch below it. When they start to delaminate, pulling them out is easier than you might think. Here is exactly how to do it, and how we fix them.
The Displays at Your Sea Ray SLX Helm
The 2016 to 2019 Sea Ray SLX dynamic display helm is built around a 12 inch Medallion Viper II on top, and many boats were optioned with a second 7 inch Medallion Viper II below it. Both are touchscreen control modules, and both connect to the boat with a single Ethernet cable on the back. That single-cable design is good news for you: removal involves unplugging one connector per screen, with no wiring harness surgery involved.

Viper II screens on these boats have been known to develop delamination as the adhesive between the touch layer and the LCD breaks down in the marine environment. Owners frequently see a watery or bubbled appearance creeping in from the edges, a hazy rainbow sheen across the glass, and in many cases touch zones that stop responding. Left alone, the separation tends to spread and can let moisture reach the LCD itself.

How to Remove the 12 Inch Top Screen
The 12 inch display is secured from behind the dashboard, and the SLX gives you a clean access route through the bow seating.
- Flip up the starboard bow backrest. Behind it you will find an access panel that opens into the back of the dashboard.
- Locate the back of the Medallion display. Depending on your model year, the screen may be held by two metal brackets secured with plastic thumbscrews, or by studs with nuts on the back side of the display. Remove whichever hardware your boat has.
- Disconnect the Ethernet cable. It is the single connector on the back of the display. Press the release tab and pull it straight out.
- Push the display forward and lift it free of the dash. Support it from the front so it does not drop once the hardware is off.
How to Remove the 7 Inch Lower Screen
If your SLX was optioned with the 7 inch lower screen, that one is the simple removal. Once you have access behind the dash, the whole job takes just a couple of minutes.
- Reach behind the display through the same dash access you opened for the 12 inch screen.
- Remove the Ethernet cable from the back of the unit.
- Remove the securing bracket holding the display to the dash.
- Pull the display free from the front of the helm.
